SoulMo Funk Band & The Honeyz, Busy... Busy... BUSY!
Late September proved to be an extremely busy month for SoulMoFunk Band and the new front line vocals, 'The Honeyz'
The band had a succession of gigs and live performances all over the place.
THE WEDDING GIG - Sally & Floyds Wedding 19-09-15 at The Cripps Centre
We did a wedding gig for the lovely couple Floyd & Sally who celebrated in true style with the band and guests at the Cripps Centre in Northampton on Saturday the 19th. It was a great gig for the band, where we welcomed stand in drummer Stuart Russell, our lead male vocalist cousin, wow the boy can stroke those skins. Stuart did a sterling job whilst our drummer 'Little Billy', 6'4" tall, was away on a family do.
The BIG Event Gig - Saturday 26-09-15
The band followed up with another charity support gig in the afternoon of the 26th, for The Zimwomen Association http://zimwomenassociation.org at 'The BIG Event at the Holy Sepulchre Church in Northampton. It was lovely, there was a performance by the Hunsbury Ladies Choir, they were superb! There were lots of stalls, raffles and fund raising and SoulMoFunk performed a quick 45 minute set, slightly interrupted by having to move group vans, during the performance. At one point Linden on percussion was playing drums, as Billy the drummer had to move his van to let someone out of the car park, then, Clive our keyboard player had to move his car, but through all the commotion, the band soldiered on.
The Cuttle Inn Gig 26-09-15
Later that night of the 26th, the band were performing at The Cuttle Inn in Long Itchington.
The Cuttle Inn is a lovely, large canalside pub with a reputation for music and bands. With a slow start, which according to the landlord was due to the pub on the opposite side of the canal having a Beer Festival Weekend. Gradually the evening got busier and busier. As well as a slow start, we agreed to a later start due to the England Vs Wales Rugby Worldcup qualifier.
Towards the end of the bands first set, suddenly the pub became much busier with people arriving. In the break the band mingled with the locals who said that they wished they had arrived earlier from the beer festival, as the other pubs band were not up to much. Hey ho, some you win, some you lose! One of the couples who enjoyed our music and danced to many of our tracks chatted to us after the gig finished and we found out that they played in a band. They found the gig details at the Cuttle Inn on Facebook and loved Soul music, so decided to join us, all the way from Northamptonshire, that was much appreciated by the band. Any way really looking forward to going back to The Cuttle Inn, Phil the landlord and his staff were real friendly.
The Railway Platform Gig - Historical Transport Museum Beer, Cider & Music Festival - 27-09-15
The following day, with a bit of a sore head after the late night and the drive home, the band were up and about for an 11:30am set up at the Historical Transport Museum 'Beer, Cider & Music Festival in Rushden Northamptonshire. After a quick set up as the PA sound system was provided by the event organisers, we had a quick early one and opened the event with a set kicking off at 1:30pm.
We had hand selected this event performance, as we had the wives driving the group vans and we had planned a couple of beers and one or two or was it three or four Ciders, I can't honestly remember. Any way there were some great acts, musicians and perfomers on the bill. There was also some great beers and ciders, or so we are told! Any way, we loved our events and antics throughout September. We met some really nice people, shared some funny moments and travelled some miles.
Hey ho, band life, back to practicing TONIGHT for the OXJAM EVENT at Barratt's Club in Northampton on Saturday 17/10/15
